The Steps to Building a Better Smile: Dental Floss

Posted .

As the holiday season nears its end, exercise caution with all products you’re consuming and lifestyle choices you are making. We want you to have a wonderful time and enjoy yourself, but make sure you don’t overdo it and end up causing your teeth damage. In that same tone, remember to think about your dental floss treatments and ways to enhance it for the coming year. Here are some tips to consider:

Tip 1: Seek out a dental floss product that is shred resistant, and will not shred easily. As an alternative, try using an interdental tool such as a water flosser to clean between teeth. For additional assistance, contact your dentist for product recommendations and suggestions.

Tip 2: When using threaded floss, use a strand that is roughly 18” in length. Twist one end of the floss around one finger on each hand and glide up and down the strand as necessary. Avoid using the same section more than once.

Tip 3: make sure to floss between every one of your teeth and behind the back row. A standard flossing procedure should take between 2 to 3 minutes.

Tip 4: After flossing between every tooth, throw the strand of dental floss away. Never use the same strand more than once.

Tip 5: Rinse your mouth out with mouthwash or plain water to remove any residue that may cling behind to your teeth and gums and repeat each day.
