Aspects of a Safer Smile: Oral Cancer Screening

Posted .

In order to make the most of your oral health, it often requires you to constantly inspect and examine your teeth and gums for any signs of damage. Although we often think of cavities and dental erosion as the only types of damage to our mouth, it is important to remember the risks for oral accidents and injuries, as well as severely debilitating diseases such as cancer. In order to check to see if you are struggling with oral and throat cancer, look for any symptoms that may be present:

– When looking for oral cancer, look for any signs of unexplained bleeding in your mouth or persistent stores that fail to heal after two weeks or more.

– If you are frequently suffering from chronic throat soreness or sore throats, it could be a sign of oral cancer. Similarly, a general soreness or feeling that something is caught in the back of your throat or difficulty swallowing can be linked to oral cancer.

– Visual clues as to the presence of oral cancer can include speckled patches in your mouth, which may be white or red, as well as rough spots, swelling, eroded areas, or lumps.

– If you have noticed dramatic weight loss, visit your dentist for an oral cancer screening.

Oral cancer symptoms include a rotation of your teeth, ear pain, difficulties chewing or speaking, a heightened sensitivity or loss of pain within your mouth or any other abnormalities are irregularities that may arise with your oral health care.
