A Filling Is Often Called for to Repair a Small Cavity

Posted .

When the natural bacteria living in your mouth work to exploit weakened tooth enamel, it can lead to the formation of a cavity on one or more of your teeth. While cavities are always detected during the course of your routine dental checkup, you should not hesitate to make an appointment with Dr. Drew Hines if you suspect one has formed on a tooth. Caught early most small cavities can be repaired with a simple filling.

Dr. Drew Hines will want to examine the tooth and take a few X-rays. This will help to assess the extent of the decay and insure that the internal structures of the tooth are still healthy and strong. Then he will numb the area.

Dr. Drew Hines will then use a drill to remove all of the decayed material leaving behind only clean, healthy tooth enamel. With this step completed he can then apply a filling. We use amalgam and composite (white) fillings for our patients, and both materials can be directly applied to the cavity.

If you have noticed a cavity or other problem area on any of your teeth, please don’t hesitate to call Dr. Drew Hines’s office in Charlotte, North Carolina at 704-366-3526 to have it examined. We are always happy to help you restore and maintain a healthy, confident smile!
